Under general manager Nick Caserio, the Texans have promoted James Liipfert to assistant director of player personnel and college scouting director and Ronnie McGill to pro scouting director.
A former New England Patriots national scout named assistant director of player personnel a year ago, Liipfert was previously director of college of scouting after originally being hired by former Texans general manager Brian Gaine and coach Bill O'Brien.
Liipfert worked for the Patriots for nine years, spending three as a national scout. In NFL circles, Liipfert has a strong reputation as a good talent evaluator with a big-time work ethic and attention to detail. A former Georgia Tech walk-on linebacker who earned a scholarship, Liipfert overlapped with O'Brien during his tenure with the Patriots as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
McGill was previously with the Patriots as a scout, including for three Super Bowl winning teams, before joining the Texans last year.
McGill was a scouting assistant for New England for two years, joining them in 2010, before being promoted to pro scout.
McGill started his NFL career as a seasonal intern for the Tennessee Titans' scouting department in 2009.
A former University of North Carolina running back, McGill rushed for 2,393 career yards and 24 touchdowns for the Tar Heels. He was an all-state running back and high jumper.
The Texans hired former New England Patriots scout D.J. Debick as assistant director of pro scouting.
Debick, like Texans general manager Nick Caserio, is a fellow John Carroll University football alum.
Debick joined the Patriots in 2016 as a scouting assistant and was promoted to area scout in 2018. He's a former Tampa Bay Buccaneers intern who has a bachelor's and master's degree from John Carroll.
Debick was a graduate assistant for two years at John Carroll, a Division III powerhouse that has produced several notable NFL employees, including Caserio, Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco, Las Vegas Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels, Washington Commanders executive Chris Polian, Texans special teams coordinator Frank Ross, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman and Philadelphia Eagles executive Dave Caldwell.
The Texans hired R.J. Goodwin and Nate Leopold as personnel assistants. Goodwin was a recruiting analyst at Pitt. Leopold is a former John Carroll University assistant linebackers coach and University of Pittsburgh player personnel assistant
