Bregman Named AL Player of the Month for August

HOUSTON, TX - Major League Baseball announced today that Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has been named the American League Player of the Month for August.

Bregman had an outstanding month of August, leading the AL in OPS (1.133), slugging percentage (.681) and runs scored (27), while ranking third in on-base-percentage (.452), tied for third in RBI (22), fourth in batting average (.362) and tied for fourth in home runs (7). 

This marks the second time an Astros player has won this award in 2022, as Yordan Alvarez was the winner for June. This also marks third time in his career that Bregman has won it as he also was named Player of the Month for June, 2018, and September, 2019. Bregman is one of two players in franchise history with three or more Player of the Month Awards. The other is Jeff Bagwell, who won it a club record five times.

For the 2022 season overall, Bregman is batting .267 with 34 doubles, 20 home runs, 77 RBI and 72 walks while posting an .849 OPS. He currently ranks in the top 10 in the AL in doubles, RBI, walks and OPS. Also, his 1.11 walk/strikeout ratio ranks third in the AL (77 BB/65 SO). Defensively, Bregman currently has a 41-game errorless streak, having not committed an error since July 14. His .982 fielding pct. ranks second among MLB third basemen (min. 100 games at third base).
