Yordan Alvarez has been rewarded for his big week. Here’s the press release from the Astros.
HOUSTON, TX - Major League Baseball announced today that Houston Astros OF Yordan Alvarez has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 12-18. This marks the second AL Player of the Week award for Alvarez this season. His other weekly award came in June.
For the week, Alvarez batted .520 (13x25) with five home runs, 10 RBI, four doubles, 10 runs, and a 1.836 OPS (.556 OBP / 1.280 SLG.). He led the AL in home runs, slugging percentage and runs for the week. On Friday against Oakland, Alvarez hit three home runs, becoming became the 3rd player in Astros franchise history to have multiple 3-homer games joining Glenn Davis (2 times) and Jeff Bagwell (3 times).
Alvarez is one of two Astros players to earn Player of the Week honors in 2022, joining Alex Bregman, who won the award in the season’s first week (April 7-10). Alvarez was also named AL Player of the Month for June this season.
