Momentum is quite a thing in sports, and the Houston Astros have certainly caught a wave of momentum and ran with it. After being down 0-2 in the World Series, the Astros went into Washington and won all three games in impressive fashion and have taken a 3-2 series lead, with one win to go for their second World Series title in franchise history.
In Game 5 on Sunday night, Gerrit Cole looked more like his normal self, controlling the strike zone and keeping Nationals hitters guessing. Offensively, Yordan Alvarez who got the start in left field delivered a 2nd inning two-run HR to give the Astros a 2-0 lead. In the 4th, Carlos Correa hit a two-run HR of his own to take a 4-0 lead.
Juan Soto hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 7th to put the Nationals on the board, making it 4-1. Cole went seven complete innings allowing just the one run off only three hits to go with nine strikeouts.
George Springer added a two-run HR in the top of the 9th to make it 7-1.
