Rockets Sign Kevin Durant to Contract Extension

HOUSTON – The Houston Rockets today announced they have signed forward Kevin Durant to a contract extension. He was acquired from Phoenix as part of an NBA-record seven-team trade on July 6, 2025.

Durant is a former MVP, 15-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA selection (First Team six times; Second Team five times), four-time scoring champion, and a two-time NBA champion and Finals MVP. LeBron James (21), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (19) and Kobe Bryant (18) are the only players in league history with more All-Star appearances.

For his career, Durant is averaging 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.13 blocks and 1.05 steals. He is one of six players in NBA history averaging at least 25.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 4.0 apg and is the only one doing so along with at least 1.00 bpg and 1.00 spg.

Durant enters this season needing 849 points to move past Wilt Chamberlain for seventh on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and 990 to surpass Dirk Nowitzki for sixth. He has averaged at least 25.0 ppg in each of his past 16 seasons played. LeBron James (20) is the only other player with more than 12 seasons averaging 25-plus.

Over the past five seasons, Durant ranked fifth in the league in scoring (27.5 ppg) and sixth in 3-point percentage (.415) among players while averaged at least 2.0 3-pointers made. In 2024-25, he was one of six players who averaged at least 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists.

Durant averaged at least 25.0 points while shooting 50.0% or better from the floor and 40.0% from 3-point range in each of the past three seasons and seven times in his career. No other player in league history has more than three seasons accomplishing that feat.
