Astros and MLB 2022 Season Officially Delayed

Opening Day for the 2022 MLB season is officially not happening on March 31st. That means your Houston Astros playing host to the Philadelphia Phillies that day... won't happen.

MLB's lockout is officially compromising the regular season, as neither MLB nor the MLBPA came to an agreement on Tuesday's self-imposed deadline for when a new collective bargaining agreement was to be reached before regular-season games were canceled. This is the first time since the 1995 season that we have entered a work stoppage, not including 2020's pandemic-shortened season.

"We worked hard to avoid an outcome that's bad for our fans, bad for our players and bad for our clubs," said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred on Tuesday afternoon. "The parties have failed to achieve their mutual goal of reaching an agreement."

Manfred cancelled the first two series of the regular season which means the Astros will no longer host the Phillies or New York Yankees to start the season.

Time will tell on when the two sides are able to come to agreement, when Spring Training will start, and when the start of the actual regular season will happen. But for now, Minute Maid Park will be dark with no baseball.
