The Houston Astros (80-61) beat down the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night, winning 12-3 in Arlington, completing a series sweep of Texas. The Astros won 13-6 on Monday, and 14-1 on Tuesday.
The Astros clobbered 16 homeruns in the series. On Wednesday, Jose Abreu hit a grand slam and a 3-run homerun, recording 7 RBI which tied a career high for him.
On the mound, Justin Verlander outdueled Max Scherzer, going seven innings giving up two runs, only one earned, with one walk and six strikeouts, all on 100 pitches. Verlander improved to 11-7 on the year, lowering his ERA to 3.23 on the season.
Houston remains atop the AL West standings, still one game up on the Seattle Mariners, and now three games up on the Rangers.
