While the Houston Astros head into 2024 with Jose Altuve and Alex Bregman both on expiring deals, the thought has been that GM Dana Brown would like to get both guys locked up on long-term deals.
But current SiriusXM radio host and former MLB GM Jim Duquette believes the Astros could consider trading Bregman ahead of his contract season to get something of value in return. If the Astros do not intend on signing him to a long-term deal, it may make sense to get something in return for him with a year left on his deal.
The only problem is the Astros have no heir-apparent to Bregman at third base. They could get by with Mauricio Dubon or Grae Kessinger for a bit, but neither is a good long-term answer at third.
Bregman ranks 8th in all-time career Astros homeruns, 10th in all-time Astros RBI, 10th in all-time Astros runs scored, and 10th in all-time Astros walks.
