Astros Announce Preliminary Spring Training Roster

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have announced their preliminary Spring Training roster today, which includes 40 players on their 40-man roster and 22 non-roster invitees, for a total of 62 players. The full roster is attached to this release.

On the club's 40-man roster, the Astros roster nine former All-Stars in 1B José Abreu2B Jose Altuve3B Alex BregmanOF Yordan AlvarezRHP Lance McCullers Jr.RHP Ryan PresslyOF Kyle TuckerLHP Framber Valdez and RHP Justin Verlander.

Among the Astros non-roster invitees are 10 pitchers, three catchers, five infielders and four outfielders. This group includes RHP Luis ContrerasIF Chris GittensRHP Tayler Scott and RHP Wander Suero, who were all minor league free agent signings.

Six of the Astros top 10 prospects, according to MLB.com, will also be at Major League Spring Training, including OF Jacob Melton (#1), RHP Spencer Arrighetti (#3), IF Zach Dezenzo (#5), OF Joey Loperfido (#6), LHP Colton Gordon (#7) and RHP Rhett Kouba (#9).

The Astros will hold their first official Spring Training workout for pitchers and catchers at the Ballpark of the Palm Beaches complex in West Palm Beach, FL, on Wednesday, Feb. 14. The first official workout for the entire squad is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 19.
