HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have agreed to a five-year contract extension with All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve, General Manager Dana Brown announced today.
The extension will cover seasons 2025-29. Altuve entered this season (2024) in the final year of a seven-year contract extension that he signed on March 19, 2018.
The 2024 season will be the 13th in an Astros uniform for the eight-time All-Star Altuve. In his first 12 seasons, he has established himself as a future Hall of Fame candidate and as one of the top three players in franchise history, along with Hall of Famers Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio. Additionally, Altuve has been the central figure in the most successful era in Astros history, which includes eight postseason appearances, a record seven consecutive appearances in the ALCS, four American League Pennants and two World Series titles.

On the Astros all-time lists, Altuve ranks first in career batting average (.307), third in hits (2,047), doubles (400), runs (1,062) and stolen bases (293), fourth in OPS (.834) and fifth in home runs (209).
POSTSEASON HERO
In the postseason, Altuve has been one of the best performers in Major League history. All-time, he ranks second in postseason home runs (27) and runs (89) and tied for third in hits (117). Among second basemen, Altuve ranks first in virtually all offensive categories in postseason history. His postseason resume also includes two go-ahead, 9th-inning home runs in the 9th inning of an ALCS game, an MLB record-tying three-home run game in the 2017 ALDS
