Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones attended a family Halloween party over the weekend and a photo posted by his niece quickly started circulating of his blind referee costume. Jones was asked about the costume after Sunday's Cowboys game against the Chicago Bears. He sounded pretty excited about it, confirming that was his costume and that he had the cane and everything.
Speculation has begun that the league may fine Jones for violating the rules on negative content and comments pertaining to officiating. An Outkick story on the situation quotes the actual NFL regulation that would likely be cited:
Comments regarding the quality of officiating, individual calls or missed calls, the League’s officiating department, an officiating crew, or an individual game official; [a]ccusing game officials of acting with bias or in any way questioning the integrity of NFL game officials; or [p]osting negative or derogatory/demeaning content pertaining to officiating on social media.
What do you think? Is the costume offensive? Should the NFL chalk this up to a little harmless Halloween fun? Or would you like to see Jones penalized?
