Jose Altuve Suffers Fractured Right Thumb; No Timeline On Return

The Astros greatest fear of the WBC came true last night when Jose Altuve left the game following a hit by pitch. Altuve suffered a fractured right thumb and there is currently no timeline for his return. He will undergo surgery in the coming days once the swelling subsides. Here is the press release from the Astros:

WEST PALM BEACH, FL - Astros second baseman Jose Altuve sustained a right thumb fracture after being hit by a pitch during last night’s World Baseball Classic game. As a result of the fracture, Altuve will undergo surgery on his right thumb in the upcoming days. 

Following the surgery, the Astros will have an update on Altuve’s prognosis.
