Jose Altuve Named AL Player of the Week

HOUSTON, TX - Major League Baseball announced today that Houston Astros IF Jose Altuve has been named the American League Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 7-13. This marks the fourth career AL Player of the Week award for Altuve, with the last coming in July of 2017.

 

Through six games last week, Altuve batted an MLB-best .520 (13x25) with three doubles, one home run, six RBI, a stolen base, a .613 on-base percentage and a .760 slugging percentage. Altuve matched his career high with four hits last Thursday at Baltimore (4x5, HR), and recorded at least three hits in three of his six games last week. Altuve’s strong week came amid a season-long 14-game hitting streak, which was snapped Sunday. Throughout the streak, Altuve batted .456 (26x57) with 18 runs scored, three homers, nine walks, nine RBI and a 1.257 OPS. Altuve’s strong week has left him just seven hits shy of 2,000 for his career, a number that’s only been reached by two other players in franchise history. Additionally, since the All-Star Break, Altuve leads the Majors with a .406 batting average (26x64) (min. 75 PA).

 

Altuve becomes the third Astros player to win AL Player of the Week this season and the second in as many weeks. He joins Framber Valdez, who did so from July 31-Aug. 6, and Chas McCormick, who did so from July 14-16.
