On Opening Day from Minute Maid Park, the Astros' bats came alive early, striking for four runs off Nestor Cortes, and avoided early damage to Framber Valdez inducing three double-play balls - but the trouble caught up with Houston in the 5th.
The Yankees scored three runs in the inning, as Seth Martinez relieved Valdez and walked in a run on the first batter he saw, before Oswaldo Cabrera tied the game in the 6th with a homerun off Rafael Montero.
Alex Verdugo hit a sac fly to scored Aaron Judge in the 7th off Ryan Pressly. And as new reliever Josh Hader struck out the side in the 9th, Houston trailed just 5-4 with a chance to either tie or win the game in the bottom of the 9th.
Mauricio Dubón led off with a single. Jose Altuve lined out to second, before Yordan Alvarez singled up the middle to put two men on with just one out. Kyle Tucker then singled to right and the Astros decided to send Dubón who appeared to be tagged out at home.
The Astros challenged the call, and video replays appeared that maybe Jose Trevino missed contact with Dubón at the plate, but the call was upheld. Alex Bregman then grounded out to end the game.
